Your Questions

Does HERO hurt?

The level of discomfort from HERO varies from person to person, however it is typically minimal to none at all. You can expect anything from a warm feeling to a sensation like the snap of a rubber band on your skin. The good news is that HERO treatments only last a few minutes, so any feelings of discomfort subside quickly.

How long is the HERO procedure?

HERO stands for ‘high energy, rapid output’, with a handpiece that fires repeatedly instead of stamping, making passes over the skin continuous and easy. The treatment itself lasts only minutes with no social downtime required.

When will I see results from HERO?

Most patients see results in 2-4 weeks; however, this will depend on the individual and the area being treated. It is important that you wear a physical sunscreen and limit your sun exposure 2 weeks before and after your treatment. Patients can see results from a single treatment. However, the number of treatments will depend on the severity of your pigmentation. A typical patient requires two to four treatments.

How often should I come in for a HERO treatment?

The number of HERO treatment sessions you will need will vary depending on the area of concern.

How much downtime is there post-treatment?

After your HERO appointment, you can expect to return to regular social activities immediately. You may have slight redness and swelling for a day or two, but this is entirely normal and will dissipate quickly.

Pre & Post Care

Pre Care

We can’t wait for you to visit North Medical Spa! In order to make sure you are fully prepared for your treatment please take a moment to review this “need to know info” below. We want to ensure that you are fully prepared for your treatment and that you receive the very best results.

Avoid blood-thinning medication (e.g. Aspirin, ibuprofen, etc.) to minimize the risk of swelling.

It is important that your skin is not tanned. Avoid direct sunlight or tanning beds for 4 to 6 weeks before (and after) each session.

Do not use a sunless tanner for at least 2 weeks before treatment.

For at least 1 week before treatment avoid waxing, chemical peels, and products containing retinol, salicylic acid, or glycolic acid.

Talk to your doctor to make sure it is safe to stop taking any prescribed medications that cause photosensitivity (extreme sensitivity to UV light).

If you have frequent cold sores or fever blisters, it is recommended to take an antiviral for at least 5 days before your treatment as laser light (like sunlight) may cause a cold sore or fever blister.

Post Care

You may experience some redness and swelling in the treated area following the procedure, but this should disappear within a few days. You will likely see some improvement in the appearance of your skin immediately after the treatment, with further improvement over the next few months, especially when follow-up appointments are booked.

After having a BBL HERO appointment, you can expect to enjoy regular social activities immediately. There is no heavy, or time-intensive post-care required. You may have slight redness and swelling for a day or two, but this is entirely normal and will dissipate quickly.

Sunscreen and sun avoidance are key. Your skin may feel tender like a sunburn. Follow your practitioner's advice on caring for your skin.

Your body’s natural healing process will go to work, replacing the damaged cells with the new fresh cells in the days to weeks following your treatment.

Cleanse the skin with plain, lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser, beginning the morning after the treatment. Use your hands and gentle patting motions. DO NOT rub, scrub, or use an exfoliant or skin care brush such as a Clarisonic on the treated area.

Moisturizer should be applied generously with clean hands over the treated area and reapplied whenever your skin feels dry. DO NOT apply any other products that were not instructed by your practitioner - eg. essential oils, coconut oil, etc.

Sunscreen is a MUST and should be used daily beginning the day after treatment and used consistently for up to 3 months post-procedure. Use a physical sunscreen with Broadband UVA and UVB protection and a SPF of 30. Ensure to reapply during sun exposure.

Remember that one is a treat, 3 to 5 is a treatment.  Best results present themselves after your complete treatment has been achieved.

Everyone’s skin is different and your results and recovery time may vary. We are here for you! If you have any questions or concerns following your treatment, please let us know.
